What is a pan card?
A permanent account number contains a digital chip, this chip contains all your information. You can fill text through a PAN card, open a bank account, invest in the share market, or take a loan, apart from this you can do many other important things.
What is the PAN format?
A typical PAN is AFZPK7190K.
The first three characters i.e. “AFZ” in the above PAN are alphabetic series running from AAA to ZZZ
The fourth character of PAN i.e. “P” in the above PAN represents the status of the PAN holder. “P” stands for Individual, “F” stands for Firm, “C” stands for Company, “H” stands for HUF, “A” stands for AOP, “T” stands for TRUST, etc. The fifth character i.e. “K” in the above PAN represents the first character of the PAN holder’s last name/surname. The next four characters i.e. “7190” in the above PAN are sequential numbers running from 0001 to 9999. The last character i.e. “K” in the above PAN is an alphabetic check digit.
Why is a PAN card required?
PAN enables the department to link all transactions of a “person” with the department. These transactions include taxes Payments, TDS/TCS credits, return of income/property/gift/FBT, specified transactions, correspondence, etc. PAN, thus, Acts as an identifier for an “individual” with the tax department.
How to apply for a PAN card online? Get a PAN card online
Step 1: Visit the NSDL website https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html to apply for a new PAN card ONLINE.

Step 2: Select the application type – New PAN for Indian Nationals, Foreign Nationals or Change/Update in existing PAN data
Step 3: Select your category – individual, trust, institution, firm, etc.
Step 4: Fill in all the required details like name, date of birth, email id, and mobile number in the PAN form

Step 5: On submission of the form, you will get a message about the next

Step 6: Click on the “Continue with the PAN Application Form” button

Step 7: You will be taken to a new page where you need to submit your digital e-KYC

Step 8: Now choose whether you want a physical PAN card or not and enter the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar number. (Select Yes if you want to keep your Aadhaar card photo in your PAN card or NO if you want to don’t keep it.)

Step 9: Now enter your personal information in the next part of the form (Select Yes if you want to keep your Aadhaar card photo in PAN card or no if you want to keep it.)

Step 10: In the next section of the form, enter your contact and other details
Step 11: Enter your area code, AO type, and other details in this part of the form. If you don’t know the AO code then help this option to know the AO code.

Step 12: The last part of the form is the document submission and declaration

Step 13: Submit PAN Card Application. You need to check your completed form to make corrections if any. If you do not want to make any changes, click on the “Proceed” button
Step 14: You will be redirected to the “payment” section where you have to make the payment either through Demand Draft or through Net Banking / Debit / Credit Card
Step 15: Once the payment is done, the payment slip will be generated, now click on Continue
Step 16: Now for Aadhaar Authentication, tick the declaration and click on the “Authenticate” option
Step 17: Click on “Continue with e-KYC” and OTP will be sent to your mobile number linked with your Aadhaar
Step 18: Enter OTP and submit the form
Step 19: Click on “Continue with e-Sign”, and enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number. An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number
Step 20: Enter OTP and get the acknowledgment slip by submitting the application. The acknowledgment slip will be in PDF whose password will be your date of birth in DDMMYYYY format. GET A PAN CARD ONLINE
Process of applying for PAN card offline- (Offline Apply for PAN Card)
Following are the methods of PAN card offline application and PAN card registration-
- DOWNLOAD PAN CARD 4 FROM NSDL OR UTIISL WEBSITE OR GET THIS FORM FROM UTIISL AGENT
- Fill out the form and attach the required documents (ID card, address, and photo)
- Submit the form along with the processing fee to the NSDL office. PAN card will be dispatched within 15 days to the address mentioned in the form
To obtain a PAN card, an online/offline application form (Form 49A or Form 49AA) has to be submitted along with the documents to complete the verification process. The documents required depend on the applicant. Following is the list of these documents-

2 . Documents for Hindu Undivided Family (HUF)
- An affidavit issued by the Karta of the HUF containing the name, address, and father’s name of each coparcener as of the date on which the application is made
- Identity proof, address proof, and date of birth certificate in case of amalgamation of HUF
3. For Register Company in India
- Copy of the Registration Certificate issued by the Registrar of Companies
4. For Firms and Partnership Companies incorporated or registered in India
- Copy of Registration Certificate issued by the Registrar of Limited Liability Partnership or Firms
- Copy of partnership deed
5. For a trust formed or registered in India
- Copy of the registration number certificate issued by the Charity Commissioner or copy of the trust deed
6. For the association of persons
- Copy of Registration Number Certificate / Certificate from the Registrar of Co-operative Societies or Charity Commissioner or other competent authority or any document issued by the Central / State Government containing the identity and address of the applicant
7. For those who are not Indian citizens
